Wet Weather Capacity Improvements

Client:
Greater New Haven WPCA
Location:
New Haven, CT
The work is divided into (4) distinct subprojects:
- Nitrogen Removal involving the reconfiguration of the (4) secondary treatment aeration basins and the construction of a supplemental carbon facility, staged sequentially to allow ongoing operations of the treatment plant, allowing the East Shore WPAF to meet more stringent nitrogen removal standards.
- Odor Control involving construction of a centralized odor control facility and interconnecting ductwork to the existing and new odor sources. The new facility is built independently from most of the existing odor control infrastructure and the existing odor loads added sequentially. The system has a single centralized odor control/treatment process.
- Gravity Thickening and Sludge Storage involves the construction of a new sludge storage tank and the retrofit of the existing sludge storage tank to a gravity thickener and the retrofit of the existing sludge storage tank to a gravity thickener and the retrofit of the existing gravity thickener to a dual use sludge storage tank/gravity thickener. The construction of the new tank and retrofit of the existing tanks is sequential to allow ongoing operation of the treatment plant throughout construction.
- Electrical Upgrades, involves the replacement and upgrade of the plant electrical power distribution system and integration of the instrumentation and controls through a combination of new facilities and replacement of existing equipment in place. The construction is sequentially staged to maintain electrical power for continuous plant operation.
